The state government of Uttar Pradesh has launched a ambitious programme to double the production of maize to 27.3 lakh metric tonnes in 2027 from 14.67 lakh tonnes in 2021–22. The thrust includes expansion of area, improvement in per-hectare yield, and promotion of high-yielding varieties suitable to local conditions. Specific focus is on popcorn, baby corn, and sweet corn, especially in tourist areas, and incentives and training are being provided to farmers. The state's "Quick Maize Development Scheme" has approved ₹27.68 crore for mechanizing farming practices and streamlining efficiency. The rising demand for maize in food, feed, and industrial uses-from ethanol to cloth-positions this project as a focal point of support for rural success and agri-business growth.
