In a landmark move, Uttarakhand becomes the first state in independent India to implement the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) today, January 27, 2025. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami officially launched the implementation, marking a significant shift in personal civil laws. The UCC standardizes regulations for marriage, divorce, inheritance, and live-in relationships across all religions, with exceptions for Scheduled Tribes. The historic legislation mandates marriage registration within 60 days and sets uniform age requirements of 21 for men and 18 for women.
