Prime Minister Narendra Modi's parliamentary seat Varanasi has witnessed a record number of domestic tourists, with official records indicating a boost of nearly 8.89 crore Indian visitors in a span of one year. Data with the Tourism Department indicates that Indian tourists visiting Kashi rose by 77.59 percent in the first three months of the year 2025 (January to March) compared to previous year.

Deputy Director of Tourism Department Rajendra Rawat mentioned that Kashi had 2.56 crore tourists from January to March 2024, which rose to 11.46 crore in the first three months of 2025. This dramatic rise is because of the spiritual attraction of the city and large infrastructural improvements, including renovated ghats, better roads, improved sanitation, and modern amenities, which have made Kashi a place that every tourist in India wishes to see.

The growth in tourist development is not limited to domestic travelers. International tourist arrivals also recorded a notable increase of 34.21 percent during the same time frame, and the numbers rose from 98,961 during 2024 to 1,50,425 during 2025.

The "double-engine government" is credited with redeveloping the infrastructure of Varanasi and putting the ancient city firmly on the world tourism map. The tourism boost of the government puts the spotlight on Varanasi's rise as a top spiritual and cultural destination, attracting Indian and foreign tourists in record numbers.
