Vedanta Ltd, the oil-to-metals conglomerate, announced on February 27, 2026, that it has been declared the preferred bidder for the Karnapodikonda bauxite block in Odisha. The Directorate of Mines and Geology,
Government of Odisha, initiated the auction process through a Notice Inviting Tender dated December 4, 2025.
After qualifying at the initial bid stage, Vedanta participated in the live e-auction and secured the mining lease rights. The Karnapodikonda block, spread across 532.747 hectares, is classified at the G2 exploration level and is expected to provide significant backward integration for Vedanta’s aluminium business.
This acquisition strengthens Vedanta’s supply chain resilience, ensuring long-term bauxite availability for its Lanjigarh refinery and Jharsuguda smelter, thereby supporting India’s aluminium production capacity.
