Vodafone Idea (Vi) has approached the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) for help in meeting its dues. The telco is hoping to convert a portion of its dues into equity, which may raise the government's holding. Vi is struggling with huge AGR and spectrum dues of Rs 36,950 crore. This includes payment of Rs 13,089 crore immediately. The step comes after recent legal and regulatory changes affected Vi's financial position. The firm is looking for options to shore up its operations and guarantee long-term survival. Vi's attempts are towards getting a more stable financial base, which is vital for its long-term survival in the competitive telecommunication market.
