Bangalore startup Uravu Labs is leading the charge on a green approach to tackling water scarcity with water harvesting from air through the power of renewable energy. Swami Shrivastav, Venkatesh R, and Govinda Balaji set up the business in 2019, using novel atmospheric water harvesting technology.
Uravu's technology employs liquid desiccants to capture humidity from the atmosphere, which is subsequently recovered in the form of pure water utilizing solar power, biomass, or industrial waste heat. The technique is more efficient in terms of energy compared to traditional atmospheric water generators and operates effectively in most humidity levels.
The company now churns out 1,000 liters daily and expects to ramp up to 100,000 liters a day in two years. Uravu Labs provides packaged "Water from Air" to the hospitality and beverage industries and has already saved more than 207,000 liters of groundwater.
With a mission to redefine water infrastructure, Uravu Labs is gaining interest from large beverage companies and has raised $4 million in capital. The technology from the company holds great promise in addressing global water scarcity issues.
