Experts have issued a dire warning regarding India's water future, forecasting individual water availability could fall to just 1,200 cubic centimeters by 2047. These predictions are being made as India contends with population growth, urbanization, and climate change. Current availability is at 1,486 cubic centimeters per person per year, which already clasifis India as a water-stressed country. Officials stress the need for sustainable practices, such as rainwater capturing or harvesting, groundwater recharge, and water-efficient irrigation. Reports suggest that the government is stepping up efforts to advance its ambitious Jal Shakti Abhiyan, which seeks to meet water scarcity while promoting equitable national distribution of water.
