In a key administrative shift, Nidhi Tewari has been made the Private Secretary to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with immediate effect. This was approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet and communicated by the Department of Personnel and Training. Tewari, an Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer of 2014 batch, moves from her previous role as Deputy Secretary in the Prime Minister's Office (PMO).

Appointment Details: Nidhi Tewari's appointment was announced by way of a memorandum dated March 29, 2025, and she would hold office on a co-terminus basis with the existing position or until further orders are issued.
Background: Tewari is from Mehmurganj in Varanasi, also the Lok Sabha constituency of Prime Minister Modi. She achieved the 96th position in the Civil Services Examination in 2013.
Career Development: Previously, she worked as an Under Secretary at the Ministry of External Affairs dealing with Disarmament and International Security Affairs. In her role with the PMO since 2022, she has also played important roles in External Affairs and Security Affairs.
Past Assignments: Tewari previously worked directly reporting to National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and handled the 'Foreign and Security' vertical within the PMO.
