Nifty 50's Dramatic Makeover: How India's Economic Pulse is Shifting Before Our Eyes

ICICI Securities cite that, over the past seven years, inclusions were dominated by consumption and financial service stocks, whereas most exclusions were industrial and defensive sectors. New-age companies in insurance, fintech, and organized retail are displacing traditional sectors like oil & gas and industrials. This shift demonstrates investors' preference for high-growth sectors during changing economic trends. The median P/E ratio of stocks added is about 60 times, while recently excluded stocks stood at 10 times, reflecting some premium on the future earnings potential.
