Nilekani's AI Prophecy: Machines May Compute, But Humans Will Rule

Infosys chairman Nandan Nilekani believes that though AI is developing at a very fast pace, it cannot substitute for core human capabilities such as empathy, leadership, teamwork, and creativity. With more and more tasks being automated by AI, these abilities will be even more precious. Nilekani stresses the need for first-principles thinking and flexibility in education, not technical skills that can become outdated in a short while. He says that though AI is capable of creating content and imitating styles, it does not possess the capacity to devise truly new ideas. Nilekani tells Indian AI firms to concentrate on applying AI to useful tasks and infrastructure for data gathering rather than trying to develop giant language models.
