NTPC's $62 Billion Nuclear Power Expansion: A Game-Changer for India's Energy Sector

India's largest power producer, NTPC, is set to make a massive leap into nuclear energy with plans to invest $62 billion in 30 GW of nuclear power capacity over the next two decades. This ambitious target is triple the company's initial goal of 10 GW. NTPC is actively seeking early approvals for land acquisition in 27 locations across eight states to support this expansion. The move comes as India aims to boost its nuclear power capabilities and reduce its carbon footprint. NTPC is also in talks with foreign firms, including EDF, Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power, Rosatom, GE Vernova, and Holtec International, for technology cooperation in both small modular reactors and larger nuclear plants.
