NTPC's Green Leap: Group Capacity Soars to 79,930 MW as ONGC-NTPC JV Acquires Ayana Renewable

In a significant boost to India's renewable energy sector, NTPC's group capacity has reached an impressive 79,930 MW, marking a substantial increase from its previous 77,806.50 MW. This growth coincides with a major acquisition by ONGC NTPC Green Private Limited (ONGPL), a 50:50 joint venture between ONGC Green and NTPC Green Energy. ONGPL has signed a share purchase agreement to acquire 100% stake in Ayana Renewable Power for ₹195 billion ($2.3 billion). Ayana boasts a portfolio of 4.1 GW operational and under-construction assets, strategically located across resource-rich states. This acquisition, ONGPL's first since its establishment in November 2024, aligns with ONGC and NTPC's ambitious net-zero targets for 2038 and 2050, respectively. The deal, approved by the Competition Commission of India, represents a major step in India's transition to a low-carbon economy.
