Indian Railways has made it compulsory to show food prices and menus on board trains. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced the move to make it more transparent and inform the passengers appropriately. Menus and prices can be found on the IRCTC website and via SMS notification. Menu cards printed are handed over by waiters, while lists of rates are shown on pantry cars. The initiative also has steps to enhance hygiene and quality, including the use of branded raw materials and installing food safety supervisors.
