Operation Brahma: India’s Humanitarian Power in Action for quake-hit Myanmar

India has emerged as a ray of hope in the wake of Myanmar's catastrophic 7.7-magnitude earthquake, having undertaken Operation Brahma with the aim of providing much-needed humanitarian relief. With more than 442 tonnes of relief material sent aboard the Indian Navy's INS Gharial from Visakhapatnam, aid consists of vital food items like rice, cooking oil, biscuits, and instant noodles to help thousands of survivors who are languishing in quake-struck areas.

The operation has been characterized by speedy deployment of assets, with India setting up a 200-bed field hospital manned by the Indian Army in Mandalay, well-equipped with surgery units and infant care facilities. An 80-strong National Disaster Response Force team is also visibly engaged in carrying out search-and-rescue efforts in Mandalay's most adversely affected regions. Indian Air Force planes have even transported emergency essentials like tents, medicines, and hygiene kits.

Myanmar's casualty count has deplorably exceeded 2,700, with thousands wounded and missing. India's swift action under its "Neighbourhood First" and "Act East" policies not only reflects its dedication to regional unity but also offers a lifeline to a country facing unprecedented devastation.
