Indian Railways is gearing up to introduce a Vande Bharat sleeper service between Bengaluru and Mumbai, promising a faster, more comfortable overnight journey between the tech capital and the financial hub. Approved recently, the service is expected to start operations around August 1, with a new superfast train via central Karnataka likely to be upgraded into a Vande Bharat Sleeper in the coming months.

The proposed Bengaluru–Mumbai Vande Bharat sleeper train will connect KSR Bengaluru with Mumbai CSMT, cutting travel time to roughly 15–17 hours and offering modern sleeper coaches, better interiors and semi-high-speed performance. While Indian Railways has cleared the concept and route, detailed schedules, stoppages and fares are still awaited, adding to anticipation among frequent business and leisure travellers on this busy corridor.

What We Know So Far About The Service

The Vande Bharat sleeper service is planned as an overnight train with evening departures and morning arrivals at both ends, making it convenient for end-to-end travellers. Current plans indicate that the service will run between KSR Bengaluru and Mumbai CSMT, likely replacing or upgrading an existing superfast connection routed via Tumakuru, Davanagere, Haveri, Hubballi-Dharwad and Belagavi through central Karnataka. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has reportedly assured local MPs that the superfast train will start by June-end, with an upgrade to Vande Bharat Sleeper status to follow.

The Bengaluru–Mumbai sector has long needed a premium overnight option that combines speed, comfort and reliability. What Passengers Can Expect

Though final details are pending, passengers can expect quicker acceleration and higher average speeds compared to existing overnight trains on the route, potentially bringing end-to-end journey time close to 15–16 hours. The rake is expected to feature modern sleeper berths, better lighting, charging points, wider gangways and upgraded safety and braking systems. Fares are likely to sit at a premium to existing superfast services but below typical flight costs when booked close to the travel date, positioning the train as an attractive middle ground for overnight intercity travel.
