Persian Gulf to Malacca Strait: Iran's Naval Power Makes Waves in Malaysia

In a key diplomatic and military move, two Iranian warships, one of them the drone carrier Shahid Mahdavi, have anchored in Malaysia for the first time. The visit is a turning point in Iran-Malaysia relations and is indicative of Iran's growing naval reach. The Shahid Mahdavi, a converted cargo vessel now used as a multi-role warship, emphasizes Iran's attempts at projecting power outside of its territorial seas.
