In April, PhonePe’s total UPI throughput crossed the 10-billion-transaction mark, a first for any single payments app in India in a single month. The spike came on the back of strong adoption in Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities, expanding merchant acceptance, and rising comfort with QR-based and in-app payments across use cases.

PhonePe has steadily grown its merchant network, onboarding small retailers, service providers and online platforms, which in turn boosts user transactions as customers find the app usable almost everywhere.
