Pradhan Defends NEP: No Language Imposition on States

Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has firmly denied allegations of language imposition in the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. In a letter to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, Pradhan asserted that the NEP promotes linguistic freedom and allows students to learn their choice of language. He blamed Tamil Nadu's opposition to the policy as being politically motivated and called for a rethink by the state. Pradhan stressed the efforts by the central government to promote the Tamil language and culture, with initiatives such as the Kashi Tamil Sangamam. He also justified the three-language policy and said it tries to revive teaching Indian languages without forcing Hindi or any other language on states.
