Union Minister of New and Renewable Energy, Pralhad Joshi, marked a milestone in Haryana’s renewable energy journey by inaugurating a cutting-edge 240 tonnes per day biomass pellet plant and laying the foundation stone for a large-scale bio-ethanol plant in Rewari district. This dual initiative is set to transform agricultural residue management and accelerate India’s clean energy ambitions aligned with the E20 ethanol blending mission and the Net Zero 2070 target.

Key Highlights:

Clean Energy Milestone: The pellet plant converts crop stubble like paddy straw, mustard straw, and cotton stalks into biomass pellets, promoting thermal power co-firing and significantly reducing pollution and carbon emissions in the NCR region.

Farmers’ Profit and Jobs Boost: By turning crop waste into valuable pellets, the project offers an additional income stream for farmers while generating rural employment opportunities, easing the stubble burning burden that previously harmed both farmers and the environment.

Bio-Ethanol Plant Foundation: The newly launched bio-ethanol facility, with a project cost of Rs. 340 crore, is expected to create 250 direct jobs and further support India’s sustainable fuel goals, emphasizing the government’s commitment to greener alternatives.

Renewable Energy Expansion: Haryana has installed more than 2.8 GW of renewable capacity, notably 2.4 GW solar power, and is rapidly advancing towards 24 GW of power capacity to support its clean energy leadership.

Government Support: The ministry encourages sustainable biomass sourcing and enhanced waste segregation systems, with policies mandating biomass and Municipal Solid Waste co-firing in thermal plants, reinforcing a robust ecosystem for clean energy production.
