Punching Above Weight: Jadumani Singh Shines at World Boxing Cup, Secures Semifinal Spot

Indian pugilist Jadumani Singh Mandengbam gave a show-stopping performance at the World Boxing Cup 2025 in Brazil, defeating Great Britain's Ellis Trowbridge in a heart-stopping 3:2 split decision to reach the semifinals of the 50kg category. Against Trowbridge, a veteran silver medallist of the 2024 Finals, Jadumani demonstrated incredible resilience, taking pressure and delivering crucial punches. His next test will be against former Asian U-22 champion Asilbek Jalilov for a place in the final.

While Jadumani’s victory brought cheer, India saw setbacks in other categories. Nikhil Dubey (75kg), Jugnoo (85kg), and Narender (90+kg) exited the tournament after hard-fought battles. With several bouts still to come, Indian boxers aim to make their mark in this key international event ahead of the 2028 Olympics.
