Pune GBS Outbreak Prompts New Water Safety Law: Minister Vows Action

In response to the Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS) outbreak in Pune, Maharashtra's government is set to introduce a groundbreaking law ensuring clean water supply and imposing fines on polluters. The minister announced plans to penalize entities contributing to water contamination, addressing the urgent need for improved water safety measures. This decisive action comes after the National Institute of Virology confirmed contaminated water as the primary cause of the GBS surge, which has affected over 170 people across the state. The new legislation aims to prevent future outbreaks and safeguard public health.
