Raid 2 Hits Hard: Ajay Devgn’s Movie Just Raided Every Other Film’s Opening

Ajay Devgn's eagerly anticipated crime thriller Raid 2 has entered the box office with a bang, raking in a whopping ₹18.25 crore on its opening day in India. The movie, which hit the screens on May 1, 2025, not only beat the opening day box office figure of Devgn's last blockbuster Drishyam 2 (which raked in ₹15.38 crore) but also became the year's third largest Bollywood opener, following Chhaava 2 and Sikandar.

Raid 2's opening day collection is pegged at ₹18.25 crore, as per preliminary trade reports, with certain sources estimating the ultimate figure to be between ₹18–20 crore.

The movie experienced a gradual increase in the number of audience members during the course of the day: morning shows reported 21% occupancy, which increased to 35.7% during the afternoon and reached 42% during night shows.

Raid 2's opening collection is much better than other recent films, such as Sunny Deol's Jaat 2 (₹9.5 crore), and is Ajay Devgn's fourth highest opening ever.

The movie's good opening was aided by the half-day Labour Day holiday and strong turnout in mass belts like Maharashtra, Mumbai, Pune, and Gujarat.

Directed by Raj Kumar Gupta and produced under the banner of Panorama Studios and T-Series, the film again sees Ajay Devgn in the role of the tenacious IRS officer Amay Patnaik, with Riteish Deshmukh essaying the villain Dada Manohar Bhai and Vaani Kapoor in a central role.

Reception has been mixed to positive, with credit for the film's engaging first half and thriller-like high-stakes drama, although some critics pointed towards a reliance on convenience in the narrative.

With its strong opening and good word-of-mouth, Raid 2 is poised for a good weekend and can turn out to be one of the top box office hits of the year.
