The India Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rain and thunderstorms for Bengaluru and several Karnataka districts over the next couple of days, placing parts of the state under a yellow alert. Residents can expect cloudy skies, intense but brief downpours, lightning, gusty winds and localized waterlogging, especially during late afternoon and evening hours.
After a spell of sultry weather, convective clouds are once again building over south Interior Karnataka. Forecasts indicate that Bengaluru will see another round of rain and thunder activity, while a wider yellow alert zone covers multiple districts as the IMD flags unstable conditions, lightning risk and possible hail in isolated pockets.
Cloudy, Warm And Stormy
IMD’s Bengaluru forecast points to a generally cloudy sky, with maximum temperatures likely to hover around 32–34°C and minimums near 22–23°C.
Showers and thunderstorms are expected mostly in the afternoon and evening, bringing short, intense bursts of rain that could cause waterlogging in low-lying areas, before easing off overnight.
Districts On Watch
A state-wide yellow alert has been issued for parts of coastal, north Interior and south Interior Karnataka over the next few days, warning of thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds.
Districts under watch include Bengaluru Urban and surrounding areas, coastal belts like Dakshina Kannada and Udupi, and several north Interior districts such as Belagavi, Dharwad, Bagalkote, Vijayapura and Haveri, where moderate rain and isolated hail are possible.
Heat, Moisture And Convective Clouds
Officials say the combination of daytime heating and moisture incursion over the peninsula is fuelling thundercloud formation, a typical pattern in pre-monsoon weeks.
While the rain will bring temporary relief from heat and improve air quality, high humidity and patchy showers mean conditions can still feel muggy between spells.
Practical Weather Wisdom
Bengaluru’s civic authorities have advised people to avoid taking shelter under trees or near hoardings during thunderstorms, keep away from waterlogged underpasses and follow real-time updates from BBMP and traffic police.
Motorists should watch for sudden slick patches, fallen branches and signal outages, while those in hail-prone districts are urged to move vehicles under cover when storm clouds build up.
