Rays of Hope: Africa's Solar Revolution Illuminates Rural Lives

Africa's solar market is going through a strong growth phase, with installations to grow by 42% in 2025. The continent installed 2,400 megawatts of solar capacity in 2024, and will install 23 gigawatts between 2025 and 2028. This growth is changing rural lives, offering clean drinking water, and enhancing public services. In Ethiopia, the World Bank-funded Electrification Program has powered over 8 million people onto the grid and lit up 19,000 public buildings. Solar mini-grids are lighting up remote villages, stimulating economic growth and raising the quality of life. With high capital expenditure as a problem, Africa's solar market has a bright future for fast growth in the years ahead.
