RBI to Revamp Liquidity Framework: Meeting with Banks Scheduled for April 3

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) is set to meet with select market participants and bankers on April 3 to discuss potential changes in its liquidity management framework. This meeting comes ahead of the RBI's monetary policy decision scheduled for April 9, marking the first policy announcement of the fiscal year.

The RBI aims to refine its liquidity tools to ensure that borrowing costs align more closely with the policy rate, enhancing monetary policy transmission. One of the proposed changes includes introducing shorter-maturity repurchase operations, such as overnight or short-tenor options, alongside the existing 14-day liquidity window. India's banking system has faced a liquidity deficit since mid-December, reaching a one-year high of ₹3.16 trillion in January. The RBI's efforts to revamp the liquidity framework are crucial in addressing these challenges and ensuring financial stability.
