Key Highlights:

Opening Date: Inauguration to be reserved for September 30, 2025; commercial passenger operations to begin immediately. The project shall be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who had also graced the foundation ceremony.

Early Operations: NMIA will initially be open on a 12-hour basis in the launch phase, which will enable a smoother ramp-up of processes and systems. Full-scale 24-hour operations will be introduced in the winter schedule starting October.

Construction Progress: It is over 94% complete with over 13,000 workers on site. Interiors and façade will be finished in time for launch, the outstanding work indicates.

State-of-the-Art Infrastructure: India's most advanced baggage handling system featuring 360-degree barcode readers is available at the airport with the hope of setting a world speed record for baggage claim. Two parallel runways and state-of-the-art terminals will enhance the annual capacity to 90 million passengers.

Sustainability Focus: NMIA is designed as a green airport with 37MW of green energy; all on-airport transportation will be electric or alternative fuel; and the airport will be a leader in sustainable aviation fuels.

Increased Connectivity: Plans involve robust connectivity through suburban rail, metro, road, and waterways from all corners of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, along with high-speed connectivity through the new Atal Setu and Mumbai-Pune Expressway.

Commercial Plans: Commercial air operations would be undertaken by top carrier IndiGo, with 15 cities being served on the first day and additional wider routes and international operations by 2026.

Future Expansion: The second phase of NMIA, too, to enable the further increase of passengers and cargo, will commence as early as October 2025.
