Regional Rift: NHB Report Exposes Housing Loan Disparities Across India

A recent report from the National Housing Bank (NHB) presents stark regional variation in housing loan penetration in India. As of September 2024, east states had 6.90% of overall individual housing loans, and northeastern states had 0.93%. Major states such as Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Gujarat rule the roost. In order to bridge these gaps, the government is encouraging the co-lending model, which utilizes bank liquidity and Housing Finance Companies' distribution strength to offer credit to underserved segments. The initiative is intended to increase housing finance for upcoming urban hotspots.
