Roxy Cinema Revival: Kolkata’s Art Deco Icon to Shine Again as a 500-Seat Auditorium

Kolkata's heritage Roxy Cinema, a jewel of Art Deco architecture, is to regain its former glory. Built initially as an opera house in 1908 and converted to a cinema hall in 1941, it had been moving towards its destruction at the hands of demolition tools before the Kolkata Municipal Corporation came into the fray. In partnership with Credai-Bengal, KMC proposes major repairs to maintain its architectural grandeur. The restoration aims to revive the original features while modernizing facilities, ensuring Roxy continues to enchant audiences for generations to come. This initiative highlights a growing appreciation for Kolkata's rich cultural heritage.
