Rushikonda Beach Goes Green: Officially Declared a 'No Plastic Zone' to Protect Marine Life

Rushikonda Beach in Visakhapatnam has been declared a 'No Plastic Zone' as of January 1, 2025, which is a reiteration of the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation's (GVMC) efforts to make the city free from single-use plastics. Since the ban was imposed, the authorities have confiscated more than 1,200 kilograms of plastic products. The District Collector said the beach should be protected for the marine life and its natural beauty. The local vendors and visitors will be compelled to observe eco-friendly practices as there are going to be fines for defaulters. It is part of a campaign on sustainable tourism in the region.
