Sensex Stumbles for Ninth Straight Session as Global Markets Wobble

Key developments in the Indian market:

The BSE Midcap index advanced by 0.25%, while the BSE Smallcap index declined by 0.70%.

Sectoral performance was mixed, with Nifty Realty rising 1.26%, Metal up 1.18%, and IT gaining 0.79%. On the other hand, Nifty Bank decreased by 0.48%, and Oil & Gas fell by 0.80%.

Top gainers in Nifty 50 included Bharat Electronics (up 4.57%), Grasim Industries (up 3.18%), and Eicher Motors (up 2.94%).

Top losers were Bajaj Auto (down 2.44%), Coal India (down 2.37%), and Reliance Industries (down 2.17%).

International stock markets showed mixed performances:

US Indices trading with deep cuts with Dow Jones quoting lower by 1.75% whereas S&P500 and NASDAQ trading lower by 2% and 3% respectively.

European stocks closed closed higher on Monday after a volatile last week, with DAX closing higher by 2.61% whereas FTSE100 and CAC ended higher by 0.70% and 1.09% respectively.

In Asia, Japan's Nikkei 225 jumped 1.81% to 37,824, while the Hang Seng Index in Hong Kong closed higher by a 0.28% to 23,006.

Global economic outlook:

The IMF projects global GDP growth of 3.3% in both 2025 and 2026, unchanged from their October 2024 forecast.

Inflation is expected to decline steadily, with global headline inflation forecast to fall from 5.9% in 2024 to 4.5% in 2025.

Advanced economies are projected to grow by 1.8% in 2025, up from 1.7% in 2024, while emerging markets are anticipated to grow at 4.1% in 2025.

The US economy is expected to remain robust, with GDP growth projected at 2.2% in 2025.

China's GDP growth is forecast to slow to 4.5% in 2025 due to structural challenges in the property sector and demographics.

Overall, the global economic outlook for 2025 suggests moderate growth amid ongoing challenges and uncertainties in various regions.
