Simi Garewal Returns to Cannes as Ray’s Masterpiece Shines Again

Veteran actor Simi Garewal is set to make her red carpet debut at the Cannes Film Festival 2025 for the screening of the restored version of Satyajit Ray’s 1970 classic Aranyer Din Ratri. The film, which has been meticulously restored in 4K, will be showcased in the Cannes Classics section, celebrating its cinematic legacy on the global stage.  

A Journey from Aspiration to Reality  
- Garewal, who played the role of Duli in the film, will attend the screening alongside Sharmila Tagore and other distinguished guests.  
- The restoration was carried out by The Film Foundation’s World Cinema Project in collaboration with Janus Films, The Criterion Collection, and the Film Heritage Foundation.  
- Hollywood filmmaker Wes Anderson, a long-time admirer of Ray’s work, will present the film at Cannes, adding an international spotlight to the event.  
- Garewal shared her excitement on social media, revealing that she has chosen Indian couture label Karleo for her red carpet ensemble.  
- The screening marks a significant moment for Indian cinema, reinforcing Ray’s enduring influence and the importance of film preservation.
