Starlink's Stellar Ambitions Meet India's Iron-Clad Demands

To bring Starlink to the Indian satellite internet market, the Indian government has laid down several tough conditions. Although Starlink recently partnered with telecom majors Airtel and Reliance Jio, Starlink would need to set up somewhere in India a control center which would provide for the suspension of communications in sensitive areas, when needed. Also, the government wants the facility to intercept calls of concerned persons through proper channels for law enforcement. The measures aim to ensure the maintenance of law and order and plugged into the security paradigm. Starlink has assured that it is considering the requirements of the government. Following this development, the application of Starlink for a satellite communications license is inching toward its final stages, expected to change the way of providing access to the internet in India, especially in remote areas.
