Strengthening Consumer Rights: Govt Rolls Out Pre-Litigation Dispute Resolution Mechanism

The government is creating a mechanism to redress consumer grievances at the pre-litigation level, says Consumer Affairs Secretary Nidhi Khare. This would effectively solve the problems without requiring recourse to legal means. The Department of Consumer Affairs has already made available an AI-based National Consumer Helpline (NCH) system, which offers sector-wise grievance analysis and has enormously accelerated the processing of consumer problems. This active initiative is also a part of overall initiatives towards strengthening consumer well-being and good trade practices and ensuring that issues raised by consumers are resolved effectively without going for formal legal proceedings.
