The Flow of Change: ADB's $200M Loan to Transform Kolkata's Waterways

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has sanctioned a $200 million loan to transform Kolkata's cityscape. This large investment as part of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation Sustainability, Hygiene, and Resilience Project will strengthen sewerage and drainage infrastructure and make it more resilient to climate and disasters. The project will build 84 km of secondary and trunk pipelines, 176 km of lateral pipelines, and 50,000 household-level sewer connections. It also involves constructing a sewage treatment plant and five pumping stations. It benefits more than 277,000 people, and the project helps combat urban flooding, sanitation, and climate change resilience in the city, which is an important step towards Kolkata's sustainable urban growth.
