Policy Clearance: The Maharashtra Cabinet cleared the e-bike taxi policy in a meeting presided over by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis at the Sahyadri Guest House.

Eligibility and Coverage: E-bike taxis will be available in cities with a population of more than 1 lakh, offering last-mile connectivity for journeys up to 15 kilometers.

Green Initiative: Electric bikes alone will be permitted, painted yellow for visibility, as part of the state's initiative towards pollution-free transport.

Employment Generation: The scheme is likely to create 20,000 employment opportunities in Maharashtra, of which 10,000 will be in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region alone.

Safety Features:

GPS monitoring and compulsory insurance for drivers and riders.

Special partitions between riders and pillion riders for enhanced security.

Female riders can choose drivers of their gender.

Affordable Fare System: While prices are yet to be determined, prices are likely to be much lower compared to existing autos and taxis, possibly even ₹3 per kilometer.

Monsoon-Protection Design: The e-bikes will be designed with roof covers to save riders from rains.

Special Assistance: Children of autorickshaw and taxi drivers can obtain e-bike taxi permits with government financial assistance of ₹10,000.

Implementation Schedule: The launch is likely to happen within 1–2 months.

This policy intends to deliver affordable commutes, ease traffic congestion on the road, and promote shared mobility. It complements the prevailing modes of transport such as local trains, metros, buses, and autos and aids environmental sustainability by the use of only electric vehicles.
