UK Government to Launch First Road Safety Strategy in Over a Decade

In response to worries that traffic fatalities have become "normalised," the UK government is about to release its first road safety strategy in more than ten years. 1,624 people died on UK roads in 2023, a 5% drop from the year before. Louise Haigh, the transport secretary, stresses that "one death on our roads is too many." The creation of a Road Safety Investigation Branch may be part of the plan. November 19–25 is Road Safety Week 2025, which aims to raise awareness and encourage safer driving. In addition to addressing speeding and drunk driving, Lancashire County Council's Road Safety Strategy 2025–2027 will give priority to younger drivers, motorcycle riders, and young pedestrians.
