UPI Lite just got Lighter: Let’s you pull Funds Straight into Your Bank!

From April 1, 2025, UPI Lite users will get the facility to transfer their available balance to their bank accounts without closing their UPI Lite accounts. The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has instructed all payment service providers and issuing banks to launch this "Transfer Out" feature by March 31, 2025. As of now, UPI Lite does not permit users to withdraw money from their wallets, only to load money into their wallets. This new facility will utilize Purpose Code 46 for identification and grant users more freedom to manage their money. Furthermore, NPCI has mandated increased security levels, mandating UPI apps with operating UPI Lite to have app passcodes, biometric verification, or pattern lock at the login. The limit of UPI Lite has recently been enhanced to Rs 1,000 per transaction and overall limit to Rs 5,000.
