WABAG Clinches Major ADB-Funded Nepal Order, Expands Water Security Mission

VA Tech WABAG Ltd, a prominent Indian water technology multinational, announced a landmark order win on November 20, 2025. The company will deploy its advanced expertise to deliver a new state-of-the-art water treatment facility in Kathmandu Valley, Nepal. The contract is backed by the Asian Development Bank and awarded by Melamchi Water Supply Development Board.

Key Highlights

WABAG secured the large Design-Build-Operate (DBO) contract, valued between USD 30–75 million.​

The Sundarijal Water Treatment Plant will have a 255 MLD (million liters/day) capacity, ensuring compliance with Nepal’s national drinking water standards and aiding Kathmandu’s population growth.​

The new plant will treat waters from the Melamchi, Yangri, and Larke rivers and be constructed adjacent to WABAG’s 2017-built facility.​

The Engineering, Procurement, and Construction phase will be completed in 36 months, followed by five years of operation and maintenance by WABAG.​

This international project strengthens WABAG’s strategic presence in Nepal and reinforces its lifecycle partnership commitment across the region.​
