Your Tax, Your Way: Pay Income Tax Without IT Portal Access

The Income Tax Department has introduced a revolutionary 'e-Pay Tax' facility on its official website, enabling taxpayers to pay income tax without having to log in to the IT portal. The new facility makes the process of paying tax easier by doing away with the requirement of usernames, passwords, or time-consuming login processes. Taxpayers may now go to www.incometax.gov.in, navigate to the 'e-Pay Tax' tab under the 'Quick Links', and go about it by giving their PAN twice and a registered mobile number. An OTP is sent to the mobile number which authenticates their identity, upon which they may choose the payment category of tax—advance tax, self-assessment tax, or normal income tax—and insert the payment information.

The system accommodates various modes of payment such as net banking, debit cards, UPI, and RTGS/NEFT, offering ease and flexibility. On successful payment, a confirmation email and SMS are sent, and the payment receipt (challan) is downloadable immediately. This effort is a major milestone towards digital convenience and tax compliance, eliminating old barriers and tax payments becoming faster and more convenient.
