2024: India's Warmest Year Since 1901, Reports IMD

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has reported that 2024 was the warmest year in India since 1901. The annual mean temperature reached 25.75°C, which is 0.65°C above the long-period average. This surpasses the previous record set in 2016. Notably, the average minimum temperature was 20.24°C, 0.90°C above normal, indicating warmer nights. The IMD attributes this rise to global warming and a lack of western disturbances. This trend aligns with global patterns, as 2024 is also projected to be the warmest year worldwide, with temperatures 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels.
