ABCs or URLs ?? : YouTube's Influence on Kids

Since YouTube has become an increasingly default "babysitter" for millions of kids, concerns regarding its influence on child development are emerging. Current research indicates that preschool-aged children who have their own devices spend a daily average of 60 minutes using mobile YouTube during nighttime hours. Although the platform has learning materials, overuse has been associated with possible dangers in cognitive, social, and emotional development. Scholars discovered that the children under YouTube care had suppressed physical development to some extent and were behind cognitively when compared to those who had grown up under parents or grandparents. Nevertheless, the platform also presents learning and entertainment opportunities. Experts emphasize the need for parental supervision and moderation in screen use to avoid possible adverse impacts on children's development.
