Ajay Kela’s Bold Bet: Can Technology Deliver Dignity and Opportunity to India’s Workforce?

Ajay Kela, President and CEO of the Wadhwani Foundation, has highlighted the key role of technology in getting India's workforce ready for decent, family-supporting jobs. During a recent interview, Kela pointed out that the mission of the Foundation is to generate five million respectable jobs and upskill 25 million individuals with employable skills by 2030. He put stress on the fact that technology is not merely an instrument but the foundation of the approach of the Foundation, facilitating scalable solutions for entrepreneurship, skilling, innovation, and digital transformation.

 

The Romesh Wadhwani Foundation, established by Romesh Wadhwani, utilizes AI-based platforms and immersive digital content to provide customized training and mentorship. Their programs comprise AI-based counsellors, masterclasses guided by experts, and a knowledge delivery layer that adjusts according to the level of an individual's learning. This technology-enabled model makes sure both youth and adults are imbued with job-ready skills so that they can become future-ready in the fast-changing work environment.

 

Kela also described the Foundation's work with government agencies to develop digital job matching and citizen-facing platforms. A national jobs platform, under development, will consolidate state and central employment services with a single gateway for job seekers and providers. Globally, the Foundation works in 12 nations, targeting emerging economies with large youth populations.

 

Through the integration of technology, strategic alliances, and an emphasis on practical impact, the Wadhwani Foundation is creating a new standard for workforce development and dignity employment in India and globally.
