Akzo Nobel India and ANIL Forge New IP & Brand Licensing Deals, Powering Transitional Growth with Royalty and Royalty-Free Agreements
Akzo Nobel India Limited (ANIL) has formalized critical licensing agreements with its ultimate parent company Akzo Nobel N.V. These include the IPLA, granting ANIL rights to utilize certain intellectual property including patents, copyrights, trademarks, and know-how related to performance coatings on a royalty-bearing basis.
Simultaneously, the CBLA permits ANIL to continue using the "Akzo Nobel" corporate brand royalty-free in India and neighboring markets for a transitional period of 15 months post the completion of the proposed JSW Group acquisition. This ensures smooth business continuity while ANIL phases out old brand usage as per the agreement terms.
The IPLA allows sub-licensing of IP to affiliates and third parties within agreed limits, while CBLA enforces brand compliance and quality standards with an eventual phase-out planned.
This strategic move supports ANIL’s continued operations across India, Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, and Sri Lanka during the ownership transition, reaffirming commitment to operational stability and market presence.
