Alarming news for Pakistan, Bangladesh, China, Indian Army to Acquire Pinaka Rocket Systems Worth ₹10,200 Crore, Boosting Artillery Capabilities

The Indian Army is set to significantly enhance its artillery prowess with the procurement of indigenous Pinaka multi-barrel rocket launcher (MBRL) systems worth ₹10,200 crore (approximately $1.2 billion). This move is poised to strengthen India's defensive capabilities along its borders with Pakistan, Bangladesh, and China.The Pinaka, named after the legendary bow of Lord Shiva, is a formidable weapon system developed by India's Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). It can fire a salvo of 12 rockets in just 44 seconds, neutralizing an area of 1 square kilometer. The latest variants boast impressive ranges of up to 90 kilometers, with future versions aiming to reach 300 kilometers.Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi announced that two major contracts will be signed before March 31, 2025:

1. ₹5,700 crore for high-explosive pre-fragmented ammunition (range: 45 km)
2. ₹4,500 crore for area denial munitions (range: 37 km)

These contracts will equip 10 Pinaka regiments, significantly boosting the Army's firepower. The system's versatility allows for deployment in high-altitude areas, making it particularly effective along the northern borders with China.The Pinaka's success has already garnered international attention, with Armenia placing orders and countries like France expressing interest. This development not only enhances India's defense capabilities but also positions it as a potential exporter of advanced artillery systems.
