Anandiben Patel Orders Uniforms In UP Colleges, Pushes NEP And Skill Training

Governor Patel, who serves as Chancellor of all state universities, issued the directive during a review meeting at Jan Bhavan in Lucknow. The move is aimed at fostering discipline, equality, and holistic student development while aligning higher education with NEP 2020.

Uniform Mandate

• Uniforms will be compulsory across all government and aided colleges and universities in Uttar Pradesh.
• Each institution will decide the style, colour, and pattern, but the rule applies statewide.
• The directive is intended to remove socio-economic barriers and promote discipline on campuses.

NEP Implementation

• Institutions must adopt multidisciplinary learning, value-based education, and yoga.
• Students should have freedom in subject selection and be encouraged to pursue multi-task learning.
• Teachers were instructed to ensure punctuality and regular attendance.

Skill-Based And Vocational Courses

• Special focus on female students’ employability and self-reliance.
• Suggested courses include beautician training, mehendi art, GST, bindi manufacturing, accountancy, and millet-based food preparation.
• Promotion of organic farming to help students generate additional income.

Infrastructure And Welfare Measures

• Improvement of women’s hostels to ensure safety and dignity.
• Formation of student grievance committees in all institutions.
• Online teaching arrangements to address faculty shortages.
• Immediate availability of clean drinking water in colleges and health centres.
• Adoption of a public-private partnership model (similar to Gujarat) to improve infrastructure.
