Over 25 lakh properties in Bengaluru have now been integrated into the e-Khata system, marking a historic milestone in property management. The initiative, led by Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, aims to bring transparency, accuracy, and universal coverage by digitizing ownership records with GPS mapping, Aadhaar integration, and digital documentation.
In a landmark announcement, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar confirmed that more than 25 lakh properties in Bengaluru have been brought under the e-Khata system. This digital property certification initiative is designed to streamline ownership records, reduce fraud, and modernize property management in India’s tech capital.
Introduction To E-Khata
The e-Khata system is an electronic property certificate that maintains ownership details in a secure online database. Unlike traditional paper-based khata records, e-Khata integrates Aadhaar details, GPS coordinates, property sketches, and digital documents, ensuring accuracy and transparency. It also makes property transactions easier by providing verifiable records accessible online.
Government’s Vision And Implementation
Shivakumar emphasized that each e-Khata will include GPS mapping, property shape, measurements, and photographs, creating a robust digital record. To facilitate access, the government has opened over 50 centers across Bengaluru, many located in government schools, where citizens can apply for or rectify their e-Khata records. A special outreach program, dubbed “Khata Mela” under the slogan ‘Nanna Khata, Nanna Swathu’, is being conducted to help property owners update their records.
Impact On Property Owners
Of the 25 lakh properties, more than 7,000 applications have already been processed, with many more underway. The government has assured that even those who have not downloaded their documents will receive printed copies free of cost at their residences. Apartment owners have also benefited, with 37,460 flats issued occupancy certificates under the e-Khata system.
Legal And Administrative Reforms
The initiative also addresses discrepancies in revenue records. Properties wrongly recorded as roads have been reclaimed by the government, ensuring rightful ownership. Shivakumar noted that the Union government has recognized Karnataka’s efforts, awarding the project as a model for the entire country.
Future Outlook
The government expects 10 lakh additional households to benefit from the drive. With Aadhaar integration and digital verification, e-Khata is set to become the backbone of property transactions in Bengaluru, reducing disputes and enhancing efficiency in urban governance.
