Bengaluru Metro Fare Hike Sparks Controversy: CM Siddaramaiah Steps In

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has intervened in the recent Bengaluru Metro fare hike controversy, directing the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) to review the steep increase. The move comes after public outcry over the 50% fare hike implemented on February 9, which made Bengaluru Metro the costliest transit system in India. Ridership dropped by 4% following the hike, with commuters seeking alternative transport options. Siddaramaiah emphasized that while the fare revision was decided by a central committee, the state government is committed to safeguarding commuters' interests. BMRCL officials are now tasked with addressing anomalies in the new fare structure to ensure affordability for regular passengers.
