Bengaluru Metro Fare Hike Sparks Outrage: Commuters Demand Rollback

The Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has announced a fare increase effective from February 9, 2025. The maximum fare has risen from ₹60 to ₹90, while the minimum fare is now ₹10. This move has led to widespread criticism from commuters and political leaders. The opposition BJP has demanded an immediate rollback, emphasizing that the metro should prioritize public service over profit. Commuters, particularly students, have expressed concerns over the increased financial burden, with some calling for discounted fares for students. The fare hike has also ignited a political blame game between the ruling Congress and the BJP, each accusing the other of mismanagement.
