BESCOM to Cut Power Supply to Buildings Without Occupancy Certificates

As part of an action against unauthorized buildings, BESCOM has decided to cut power supply to Bengaluru buildings that do not produce required documents, especially occupancy certificates. The action comes following a Supreme Court order that connections should not be provided by service providers without such certificates. Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has asked BESCOM to withhold or disconnect connections to buildings that have been found to be unauthorized or infringing building standards. Prior to disconnection, BESCOM will give a seven-day notice to defaulters. The move is to check uncontrolled illegal constructions in the city, which have been a nagging problem even as recent surveys have pinpointed several unauthorized buildings.
