Beyond Passion: Unlocking India's Social Potential by Solving the Mid-Management Puzzle

India's social sector is facing a substantial challenge: an absence of effective mid-level management. Though there is much enthusiasm for bringing about change, the sector does not have professionals capable of converting strategy into effective action. According to a study, 97% of social sector professionals think development of mid-management is vital, but merely 18% of NGOs invest significantly in it. This shortfall results in disjointed implementation, excessive attrition, and undue dependence upon senior leadership. Experts contend that investing in mid-level talent is critical to the future of the sector, allowing for more resilient, strategic, and effective operations. Failing to address this "missing middle," the social sector will continue to be fragmented and have limited scalability, preventing it from driving significant change in India.
